Carl von Ledebur (writer)

Carl Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm Philipp Justus Freiherr von Ledebur , also Karl von Ledebur (born April 20, 1806 in Schildesche , † October 25, 1872 in Stolp ) was a Prussian officer and biographer.

origin

Carl comes from the Westphalian noble family Ledebur . His parents were Ernst Friedrich August Freiherr von Ledebur (1763-1833) and his wife Wilhelmine Karoline Johanna, née von Schladen (1774-1856). The historian Leopold von Ledebur (1799–1877) was his brother.

Life

He himself chose a career as an officer in the cavalry .

In 1852 he said goodbye after falling from his horse and then devoted himself to two works on the history of Berlin, of which the Tonkünstler-Lexicon Berlin’s is today an important standard work.

From 1868 he worked with the rank of major as the commandant of the Invalidenhaus in Stolp, which belonged to the II Army Corps , whose general command was in Stettin during these years .

family

He married Sophie von Löschebrandt (1807–1888) in Berlin on March 13, 1835 , with whom he had three children. The daughter Sidonia (born December 9, 1835) and the sons Ernst (1837–1902) and Karl (1840–1913). The latter later worked as a theater director in various cities .
