Albrecht von Bonstetten (* around 1442/43; † around 1504) was dean of the monastery in Einsiedeln and an early humanist .

Coming from the Swiss baron family von Bonstetten , Albrecht von Bonstetten entered the Einsiedeln monastery around 1454 at the earliest. After studying in Freiburg and Basel, he became dean of the monastery in 1469. In Pavia he studied canon law . In 1474 he was ordained a priest. In 1498 Maximilian made him Dr. appointed utriusque iuris.

Bonstetten wrote a number of historical and religious writings, mostly in Latin.

In 1479 Bonstetten wrote the Superioris Germaniae Confoederationis Descriptio , a country description of the federal territory. It contains the first cartographic representation of the Swiss Confederation. Bonstetten wanted to present the eight-member alliance as a politically uniform and historically legitimized entity. Following the example of the world map ( mappae mundi ), the map shows the area of the Confederation as a closed circle, the center of which is the Rigi as a “royal mountain” (Regina mons) . Several copies of the work were sent to the European rulers. The font, originally written in Latin, was translated into German in 1485.
