The Alces River is an approximately 65 km long left tributary of the Peace River in the Peace River Regional District in the northeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The river bears the Latin name (generic name) of the elk ( Alces americanus ).
River course
The Alces River rises in the hill country east of the Canadian Rocky Mountains at an altitude of about 870 m . From there it flows in a predominantly southerly direction before finally flowing into the Peace River 39 km east of Taylor . The estuary is 4 km from the provincial border with Alberta further east . The Beatton River runs west of the Alces River .
Hydrology
The Alces River drains an area of about 700 km². At the gauge 33 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 0.591 m³ / s. The largest runoffs usually occur in May.
