Aldea Island ( Spanish Isla Aldea ) is the middle of the three islands of the Bugge Islands off the outer edge of the Wordie Ice Shelf on the Fallières coast in the west of the Antarctic Peninsula .
Participants of the Second Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1947-1948) named them after Juan de Dios Aldea Fonseca (1853-1879), a key figure in the naval battles of Iquique and Punta Gruesa on May 21, 1879 in the Chilean-Bolivian-Peruvian saltpetre war .
