Alec Wilder
Alec Wilder (born February 16, 1907 in Rochester , New York , † December 23, 1980 in Gainesville , Florida ) was an American composer of classical and jazz musical works, ballads and teaching materials.
Life
From the late 1930s onwards, Wilder recorded his own compositions with jazz-oriented arrangements, primarily using woodwind instruments and the harp, such as Suite No. 1 for tenor saxophones and strings . He also wrote chamber music and popular titles like I'll Be Around , but otherwise had only a superficial relationship with jazz . But his arrangements had a certain influence on modern jazz arrangers. Frank Sinatra was a great admirer of Wilder's music, whose real name was Alexander Lafayette Chew. Keith Jarrett used Alec Wilder's songs on several of his Standards record sessions, such as While We're Young (Live at the Blue Note), Moon And Sand ( Standards, Vol. 2 ) and Blackberry Winter (Silence). Furthermore, Wilder wrote the lyrics for the song A Child Is Born and dealt with the American Popular Song 1900-1950 in a book . Stefano Battaglia recorded several pieces by Wilder for In The Morning with his trio in 2014 .
