Aleks Krotoski (full name Aleksandra Krystyna ; born October 22, 1974 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia ) is a Polish - American social psychologist who also works as a journalist . She writes for the UK Guardian and has published several papers on technology and new media issues.

Life

Krotoski was born as the daughter of Danuta and Wojciech Antoni Krotoski in Kuala Lumpur , a citizen of the United States. She graduated from Oberlin College , Ohio, with a BA in Psychology in 1996 and then began living and working in the UK . After returning to university in 2004, she obtained her Master of Science degree at the University of Surrey , where she also obtained a PhD in 2009 . Her work dealt with facets of social life in Second Life . She married Ben Hammersley in April 2014 and the couple have one daughter.

Work & Publications

Aleks Krotoski co- hosted 12 episodes of the television program Bits , which aired on Channel 4 between 1999 and 2001 . Between 2001 and 2013 she was seen in several television documentaries , partly as an expert, partly as a presenter - like in The Virtual Revolution . For BBC Radio 4 , she has presented “Digital Human”, a documentary about human behavior on the Internet, for eight seasons since 2011 (as of February 2016). For the British Department for Education and Skills in 2006 she contributed to part of the publication "Unlimited Learning: The role of computer and video games in curriculum-based education"; In 2004 she wrote “Chicks and Joysticks: An Exploration of Women and Gaming” for The Entertainment & Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA).
