Aleksa Kokic

Aleksa Kokić (born October 14, 1913 in Subotica , † July 17, 1940 in Cetinje ) was a writer , poet , prose writer and essayist of the Bunjewatzen . He wrote the plays and translated into Czech , Slovak , Hungarian and German .

He attended elementary school in Subotica. He passed the Abitur in the Jesuit high school in Travnik .

Kokić studied theology in Zagreb . During his studies he was ordained a priest by Bishop Lajčo Budanović . After that he was a priest in Subotica.

Later he studied again in Zagreb, this time Slavic Studies .

He died suddenly during a military maneuver as part of his regular military service.

Aleksa Kokić was the ideologue of the Croatian Bunjewatzen. His stanzas are on a plaque in Subotica "Hrvati bili smo uvijek - Hrvati odsad biti" on the building of the Pučka kasina .
