Kari Sallinen

Kari Juhani Sallinen (born September 24, 1959 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish orienteer and world champion from 1985.

Sallinen took part in world championships as early as 1981 and won the bronze medal with the Finnish relay. In the individual competition, he reached fifth place. In 1983 Sallinen was again fifth in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary . At the 1985 World Cup in Australia, Sallinen finally won the world title. Sallinen had almost two minutes ahead of the Norwegian Tore Sagvolden , the 1981 vice world champion.

In 1982, 1983 and 1986 Sallinen became Finnish champion in the classical music competition. He also won the national night orienteering championship in 1982 and the long distance championship in 1987. In 1989 he was with the relay of the club Hiidenkiertäjät Finnish champion in the relay race. With this club he also won the Jukola in 1987 as the final runner .

In addition to the Hiidenkiertäjät , he also belonged to the Matinkylän Akilles club during his career . His mother Raili Sallinen (née Hyvärinen ) was the 1975 relay world champion in orienteering skiing .
