Olav Lundanes (born November 11, 1987 in Ålesund ) is a Norwegian orienteer .

career

In 2005 Lundanes was in the Swiss Tenero Junior World Champion over the long distance and with the Norwegian relay. In 2007 he won the junior world championship title in the middle and long distance in Dubbo, Australia . In the same year he came in Kiev for the first time to a world championship use among the active. He was used in the sprint and reached the 36th place in this competition.

Lundane's strength lies primarily in running in forest areas and on the longer distances. From 2008 he was also used on these by the Norwegian Association. At the European Championships in Ventspils in 2008 , however, he did not get past 19th place in the long distance. In 2009, however, he came a good deal closer to the top of the world, after finishing fourth in the sprint and seventh on the long distance at the World Championships in Miskolc, Hungary .

Lundanes achieved his big breakthrough in the 2010 season. At the European Championships in Bulgaria, he won bronze with the Norwegian relay. He finally won his first international gold medal among the active at the World Championships in Trondheim . There he stayed in the competition on the long distance ahead of his compatriot Anders Nordberg and the French Thierry Gueorgiou . Three days later he secured the silver medal in the relay behind Russia together with Carl Waaler Kaas and Audun Weltzien .

In 2011 he was third in the middle distance behind Gueorgiou and the Swede Peter Öberg at the orienteering world championships in the Savoie department . With the Norwegian relay he won silver again. In 2012 he won the European Championships in Sweden in both the medium and long distance with a lead of over a minute each. At the World Championships in Lausanne in the same year , he won the long-distance title for the second time since 2010. His lead over second placed Matthias Merz from Switzerland was almost three minutes. In Sweden he won the traditional multi-day O-ring competition . After these successes he only had to admit defeat to the Swiss Matthias Kyburz in the overall World Cup 2012 .

After he had to take a break in 2013 due to an injury, he won the silver medal in the long distance at the European Championships in Portugal in April 2014 behind the Swiss Daniel Hubmann . At the World Championships in Italy in 2014, he won the middle distance title ahead of Fabian Hertner from Switzerland and Oleksandr Kratow from Ukraine. On the long distance he was third behind Thierry Gueorgiou and Daniel Hubmann.

Lundanes has been running for Norwegian club Halden SK since 2009 . Until 2003 he ran for the club Emblem IL . From 2004 to 2008 he started for Østmarka OK . With Halden, Lundanes won the Jukola in 2010 and 2011 and the Tiomila in 2012 .
