Leonid Yuryevich Novikov

Leonid Jurjewitsch Novikow ( Russian Леонид Юрьевич Новиков ; born January 10, 1984 in Belgorod ) is a Russian orienteer . In 2013 he became world champion in the middle distance and with the Russian relay.

The middle distance specialist Novikow was overshadowed by his older brother Valentin Novikow for years . So he did not manage to finish in the top ten in a major international championship until 2012. In 2013 at the World Championships in Vuokatti , Finland , at the age of 31, he won the middle distance ahead of Thierry Gueorgiou from France and Gustav Bergman from Sweden. Running for the first time in the Russian relay, he won his second gold medal a few days later.

Internationally Nowikow started first for the Finnish starting community Delta , with which he won the Jukola in 2008 in a season with his brother . After the dissolution of Delta in 2013, Nowikow runs for the former Delta club Hiidenkiertäjät from Lohja .
