In October 1966, the first world orienteering championships were held in Fiskars, Finland . There had already been European championships in 1962 and 1964 , but the young Hadler had not yet taken part. In 1966, the 22-year-old Hadler was part of the Norwegian World Cup squad. At the Nordic Championships he won gold with the relay last year and finished seventh in the individual race. However, five of his compatriots were placed in front of him, above all Peer H. Staff , who had won the Nordic championship. In Fiskars, Hadler managed a good run on the 16.5 km long route: He won the world title ahead of the Finn Aimo Tepsell . Hadler won a bronze medal with the Norwegian team.

At the 1968 World Championships in Linköping , Sweden , he took part with his wife Ingrid , whom he had married less than two months earlier. While his wife took second place in the individual competition, Hadler was able to take third place in the men's race behind the two Swedes Karl Johansson and Sture Björk . With the relay, he won his third bronze medal.

In 1969 Hadler became Nordic Champion and did not appear as an outsider at the 1970 World Championships . However, he only reached eighth place in the victory of his compatriot Stig Berge . In the relay race, the Norwegian team was successful for the first time at world championships. Together with Ola Skarholt , Stig Berge and Per Fosser , he won his second World Cup gold medal as the final runner. In 1971 he defended his Nordic championship title and also won gold with the Norwegian B-season together with Per Fosser, Jostein Nilsen and Eystein Weltzien .
