Bertil Norman

Bertil Norman (born June 29, 1929 ) is a former Swedish orienteer . Norman was part of the Swedish world championship season from 1966.

As early as 1947, Norman was the first Swedish champion over the long distance. In the following two decades he won a total of eight Swedish championship titles. When the first European and World Orienteering Championships were held in the 1960s, Norman was part of the Swedish squad. At the European championship premiere in 1962 in Løten , Norway , Norman was runner-up in the individual race over 16.5 km behind the Norwegian Magne Lystad . In 1963 he won silver at the Nordic Championships in both the individual and the relay. Norman took part in the next two years at the European Championships and the Nordic Championships and was able to win bronze with the relay. The Swedish relay team celebrated its greatest success up to then at the first World Championships in 1966 in Fiskars, Finland . With Karl Johansson , Anders Morelius and Göran Öhlund he won the gold medal. Norman was already 37 years old at this event and two years later he won his last big title with the Swedish championship in the night orienteering race.

In 1961, 1962 and 1964 Norman was voted Orienteer of the Year ( Årets orienterare ) in Sweden.
