François Gonon

François Gonon (2008)

François Gonon (born April 23, 1979 ) is a French orienteer . In 2011 he became world champion with the French relay.

Gonon ran his first world championships as a 20-year-old in Inverness, Scotland . Gradually he made it to the top of the world over the next few years. In 2005 and 2006 he finished eleventh in the overall World Cup, and in 2007 he was sixth. He won his first medal at the World Championships in Japan in the French relay in 2005, when he finished second behind Norway with Damien Renard and Thierry Gueorgiou . The French also won silver at the 2006 European Championships in Estonia. At the 2008 World Championships , Gonon came third in the long distance race behind Daniel Hubmann from Switzerland and Anders Nordberg from Norway. In 2011 in France he was able to repeat this success; this time he was only behind Thierry Gueorgiou and the Finn Pasi Ikonen . In addition, the French season with Philippe Adamski , Gonon and Gueorgiou became world champions. This was the first time that the world championship title went to France in the relay race.
