Magne Lystad

Magne Lystad (born November 12, 1932 in Lundersæter near Kongsvinger ; † January 21, 1999 ) was a Norwegian orienteer .

Lystad became the first European champion in orienteering in 1962. The then 29-year-old Lystad relegated the Swede Bertil Norman to second place on the 16.5 km route (as the crow flies) in the title fights in Løten, Norway . Lystad had already become Nordic champion in 1957 and 1959 and was able to win two bronze medals in this competition in 1961 and 1965. At the European Championships in Le Brassus in 1964 , he finished 16th in the individual competition, but was able to win the silver medal with the relay together with Ola Skarholt , Per Kristiansen and the final runner Stig Berge .

In 1957 Lystad was voted Sportsman of the Year in Norway together with the speed skater Knut Johannesen and won the Morgenbladet gold medal . Lystad, whose nickname was skogens konge , so the "king of the forest", ran for the association Lundersæter IL .
