Jörgen Mårtensson doing O-rings

Jörgen "Jögge" Mårtensson (born December 4, 1959 ) is a former Swedish orienteer and athlete . Mårtensson became world champion over the classic long distance in orienteering in 1991 and 1995 and won a total of ten medals at orienteering world championships between 1981 and 1997.

When Jörgen Mårtensson won his first individual world championship medal with gold over the long distance in 1991, he was almost 32 years old. But he had been among the world's elite for ten years, which he was able to prove by winning the Nordic Championships in 1982. The length of his career - 20 years running among the best in the world - is unprecedented. With ten World Cup medals, Mårtensson is one of the best orienteers of all time, and he has often just narrowly missed the podium. Eight times he came in fourth to sixth at world championships, including twice with the relay, with which he was never able to win a world title. In addition to his two world championship titles, there are also five Nordic championships and ten Swedish championships, including one in the marathon, which he won as the best Swede at the 1998 Stockholm Marathon . He also became Nordic Junior Champion in 1978, Swedish Junior Champion five times and World Veteran Champion in 1996. In 1996 he also won the first edition of the Park World Tour .

In 1988, 1991, 1995 and 1997 he was named orienteer of the year in Sweden.
