Aleksandar Đokić (born October 19, 1933 in Belgrade , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † October 10, 2019 in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia ) was a Yugoslavian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Aleksandar Đokić studied singing at the Belgrade Music Academy and at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice . In 1959 he was engaged at the Belgrade National Opera, where he first sang in the choir from 1960 to 1961 and then from 1961 until his retirement in 1992 was a permanent member of the ensemble for over 30 years.

Đokić made his debut in 1960 with the small role of the turnkey in the opera Tosca , in which he soon took over the role of sacristan. His first leading role in his early days as a singer was Bartolo in The Barber of Seville . Đokić sang in over 1,500 performances in the course of his career and interpreted more than 60 parts from the vocal categories bass, bass-baritone and baritone . His important specialist roles included Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte , Dulcamara in Der Liebestrank , Zaccaria in Nabucco , King Philip in Don Carlos and Sancho Panza in Don Quichotte .

He has made guest appearances at theaters and festivals in Germany and abroad (including in Vienna, Berlin, Venice, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Moscow, Edinburgh, Lausanne, Athens, Bratislava, Brno and Innsbruck) and also had a successful career as a concert singer. In the concert hall he often interpreted the bass parts in vocal works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Ludwig van Beethoven , Boris Papandopulo and Krešimir Baranović . According to music critics, Đokić had a "voice of very beautiful color and amazing evenness, with soft and portable tones and perfect vocal technique". He was also considered a convincing stage actor.

Đokić was married to the opera singer Olga Đokić (* 1936). From 1992 to 1998 he was professor for solo singing at the State Music Academy in Limassol ( Cyprus ). From 1999 he gave singing lessons together with his wife Olga in their own singing studio in Belgrade.

The funeral service for Đokić took place in the New Cemetery in Belgrade .
