The New Cemetery in Belgrade was laid out in 1886, making it the third Christian cemetery in Belgrade. It is also the first architecturally and town-planning cemetery in Serbia . It is located west of Ulica Ruzveltov. Directly opposite is the Belgrade Jewish Cemetery and the Heroes' Cemetery for the liberators of Belgrade in World War II .

Monument to Russian Soldiers (1935)

Initially, only members of the Serbian Orthodox community were buried in the cemetery. Between the World War II, the cemetery was made available to other denominations. After the October Revolution , special areas were reserved for the community of Russian emigrants. There are also allied, British, French, Italian military cemeteries. There is a memorial from 1935 with the inscription “Eternal memory of Tsar Nicholas II and 2,000,000 Russian soldiers of the Great War”.

In the cemetery there is the St. Nikolas Church by the architect Svetozar Ivačković , which was built in 1893.

Arcades

Nikola Pašić and Svetlana Velmar-Janković , among others, are buried in the arcades .

Avenue of the Great

The avenue of the greats was laid out in the 19th century. These are relocated graves of the disbanded Tašmajdan cemetery . Petar Kočić , Radomir Putnik , Živojin Mišić , Jovan Cvijić , Branislav Nušić , Slobodan Jovanović , Stevan Hristić , Milunka Savić and Svetozar Gligorić are buried in the Avenue of the Great .

Avenue of Outstanding Citizens

The avenue of outstanding citizens was laid out in 1965. Here were other Paja Jovanović , Radivoj Korać , Petar Lubarda , Ivo Andric , Milos Crnjanski , Dušan Radović , Branko Ćopić , Stjepan Bobek , Miodrag Bulatović , Vasko Popa , Nenad Bogdanović , Rade Markovic , Olivera Marković and many more.
