So far, the film has received a rather positive rating from 89 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes critics with an average of 7.4 out of a possible 10 points.

Patrick Heidmann from epd Film explains that the actual running and training scenes played a subordinate role in the film, but the personality of the protagonist all the more. Although the plot runs as expected overall, the staff and their interactions are definitely good for surprises, Heidmann continues, with the actors being worth seeing across the board. Above all, the comedic timing of Jillian Bell is fantastic. Paul Downs Colaizzo is meanwhile to be credited for being interested in far more than a not so long ago typical Hollywood story of a change to a pretty swan and a better person: “The line between charming self-discovery and fat shaming is very fine , and Brittany Runs a Marathon doesn't always manage to walk on it as easily as on that between humor and seriousness.
