Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye

Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye (born August 30, 1938 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish glass and ceramic artist.

Life

Alev Ebüzziya was born in 1938 as the daughter of the journalist, writer and historian Ziyad Ebüzziya and his wife Vala. From 1956 to 1958 Siesbye studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul and then studied with the ceramic artist Füreya Koral . From 1958 to 1960 she worked in a ceramics factory in Höhr-Grenzhausen and from 1960 to 1962 at Eczacıbaşı Holding in Istanbul. In 1963 she went to the Royal Porcelain Factory in Copenhagen as a designer, but opened a studio in 1969 and has worked as a freelance artist and designer ever since. She has lived in Paris since 1987. From 1975 to 1990 she was a designer for Rosenthal , from 1984 to 2000 for Royal Copenhagen . She has been working for the Rosendahl Design Group since 2006, producing designs for the Turkish glass factory Denizli Cam.

Siesbye's work is a mixture of minimalist Danish design language and Anatolian patterns. She mainly works with the bead technique and uses the potter's wheel for final shaping. She mainly makes bowls.

Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye was married to the Danish general manager David Siesbye from 1967 to 1979.
