Alex Day (born April 8, 1989 , real life Alex Richard George Day ) is a British video blogger and musician, who became known through the video platform YouTube .

In 2009 Alex Day released Parrot Stories, his first solo album, produced by Tom Milsom. The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) was released in 2010 .

In addition to his activities as a solo artist, Day is a founding member of the band Chameleon Circuit , whose songs are thematically based on the television series Doctor Who . This released their self-titled debut album in June 2009, of which over 1000 copies were sold in the first week. The second album Still Got Legs , which was released on July 12, 2011, made it to number 27 in the UK iTunes Album Charts and number 4 in the iTunes Rock Album Charts. In addition to Day, Charlie McDonnell , Liam Dryden and Ed Blann and Michael Aranda, who joined the band in 2011, are members of the band. Founding member Chris Beattie got out before the production of the second record.

In addition, Alex Day was together with McDonnell, Ed Blann and Tom Milsom a member of the band Sons of Admirals , which released the Cat Stevens cover Here Comes My Baby in June 2010 . The single reached number 61 in the British charts, it reported, among other things, The Sun , which also invited the band to a live session.

In November 2011, Day asked subscribers to support his song Forever Yours in order to surprise the UK Christmas charts with an original song that was not part of The X Factor's casting show squad . On November 13, 2011, Day released his single Forever Yours on iTunes and from December 18, the first day of the chart count, a total of thirteen remixes followed - some by other YouTubers, some created by himself - the entire proceeds of which go to charitable organizations should, largely to World Vision . With this and through the additional publication on Amazon MP3 and his call to give the songs to others via iTunes, he used loopholes in the online charts, which posted all these sales to his original song. On December 25th, the UK charts announced that Forever Yours was in fourth place, ahead of artists like Coldplay. This makes Day the first artist who ever made it into the top ten of the UK charts without a record deal and without radio or television support. He claims that over £ 20,000 were raised for charity.

Other activities

In addition to his activities as a vloger and musician, Alex Day works on other projects. He and his cousin Danny Hooper developed the card game Sopio , for which championships are held regularly. He also created the Lifescouts project , where he sells metal badges for specific experiences that buyers can collect; the name and the idea are based on the badges of the boy scouts .

On October 13, 2014, Day published a book about London Underground , which can only be obtained from a website he operates as he publishes it himself.

Abuse affair

In March 2014, a series of public allegations began against Day and other British YouTube personalities, alleging that Day has emotionally manipulated at least 11 girls aged 16 and over since he was 21, and in some cases sexually coerced them. On his Tumblr page on March 14, 2014, he stated:

“It's only in the last 24 hours that I'm realizing how much I created situations that put people under enormous pressure. I wasn't being responsible enough to be aware of it, and that's my fault entirely. I want to be clear that I'm not blaming this on my lack of awareness or knowledge of consent and boundaries. I'm blaming myself. I'm deeply, deeply ashamed of this. "

“It was only in the last 24 hours that I realized how often I caused situations that put people under enormous pressure. I wasn't responsible enough to notice and that is my fault. I want to make it clear that I do not blame my lack of knowledge of consent and boundaries for this. I blame myself. I am deeply ashamed of it. "

Since then, Day has largely withdrawn from the public eye for several months, including a. He did not publish any videos on YouTube or tweets on Twitter, and his tumblr page is no longer available. On October 5, 2014, he made a video speaking about the allegations and his public withdrawal. In one approach to the statement, he presents two cases, which he classifies as minor offenses, and criticizes the tumultuous Tumblr community, which in his eyes has not given him the chance to share his view of the events. Since then, Day has sporadically published videos and tweets again. While the number of negative comments among its videos is decreasing on YouTube, its subscriber number fell below the one million mark for the first time on November 28th.
