Cevat Yerli (* 1978 in Coburg ) is a German-Turkish entrepreneur and game developer . He became known as the co-founder and managing director of Crytek , one of the largest German development studios for computer games. At Crytek he also led the development of the games Far Cry , Crysis , Crysis 2 , Crysis 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome .

Life

Cevat Yerli was born in 1978 as the youngest son of Fatma and Mustafa Cevdet Yerli in Coburg, making him the only child in the family who was not born in Turkey. His parents had moved to Germany from the Black Sea city of Giresun in Turkey as guest workers in the 1970s . Yerli has four older siblings, three brothers and one sister. In 1988 he got his first computer , a Commodore 64 , and later he got an Amiga . Together with his brothers Faruk and Avni, he decided early on to develop his own computer games. A first own game, a Thai boxing simulation, was never published because the Amiga home computer for which the title was developed was now out of date. In 1997 he and his two brothers founded the company Crytek in Coburg , which was not officially registered as a company until 1999. After studying business administration , he finally devoted himself entirely to his company. In 2004, Far Cry , Crytek's first own game, was published by the publisher Ubisoft . The game was a great success, was praised by the trade press in particular for its outstanding game graphics, and over 2.6 million copies were sold at full price. Due to the great success, Crytek was able to expand further. In 2006 Yerli moved his company to Frankfurt am Main . In 2007 the second own title, Crysis , was published, which had two successors with Crysis 2 (2011) and Crysis 3 (2013). Yerli headed Crytek until February 2018 and is still working as a consultant for the company today. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and congresses on computer games.
