Alexander James Herrera (born August 15, 1992 in Ignacio , Colorado ) is an American basketball player .

career

Herrera played until 2010 at Ignacio High School in the US state of Colorado , followed by five seasons at Fort Lewis College, also in Colorado (second division of the NCAA ), where he did not participate in the game operation in the first year.

In the spring 2014 season Herrera joined the Australian team South West Metro Pirates, but did not play there as a professional and then returned to Fort Lewis College for his senior year. During his time at Fort Lewis College Herrera was honored three times as the best defender of the "Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference" and with 301 blocked throws made it to first place on the all-time best list of the university team and second place with 1758 points and 937 rebounds.

After leaving Fort Lewis, he completed a trial training session with the NBA club Denver Nuggets . During the 2015/16 season he played for the Finnish first division club KTP Basket Kotka , followed by a year with the Spanish second division club Tau Castello .

During the summer break of 2017, Herrera was signed by the German second division club Phoenix Hagen . In Hagen, the American immediately became a top performer in the indoor position, he led the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2017/18 game year with 8.4 rebounds per match, also his 15.7 points and 2.2 blocked throws per game ( both were maximum values ​​within the team) made people sit up and take notice. With 13.7 points per game, he was the second best scorer of the Hagen team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2018/19 season , and his average of 8.1 rebounds per match was the team maximum.

In the summer break of 2019, he moved to the relegated Bundesliga Science City Jena , who provided him with a two-year contract.
