Alex Weldon
Alex C. Weldon (b. 1914 in Budapest , † January 10, 2004 in Jamestown , New York ) was an American film technician and specialist in special effects who was twice nominated for the Oscar for best visual effects .
biography
Weldon began working for special camera effects at Dangerous Passage (1944) in the mid- 1940s and was involved in the creation of over 30 films through 1980.
At the 1970 Academy Awards , he and Eugène Lourié were nominated for the first time for the Oscar for the best visual effects, namely for Krakatoa - The Greatest Adventure of the Last Century (1969). He received another nomination in this category in 1971 for Patton - Rebel in Uniform (1970).
Other well-known films with special visual effects designed by him were Escape in Chains (1958), Papillon (1973), The Wind and the Lion (1975) and Star Trek: The Movie (1979). In the film The Wind and the Lion he also appeared in the role of US Secretary of War Elihu Root . He has worked with well-known film directors such as Stanley Kramer , Bernard L. Kowalski , Franklin J. Schaffner , John Milius and Robert Wise during his career .
