Alexander Anatoljewitsch Kosmodemjanski ( Russian Александр Анатольевич Космодемьянский ; born July 27, 1925 in Osino-Gai , Tambov Governorate ; † April 13, 1945 in Vierbrüderkrug , East Prussia ) was a Soviet officer.

Life

Kosmodemjanski came from a family of teachers. In 1930 the family moved to Moscow , and Kosmodemjansky attended ten-grade school No. 201 (now Kosmodemjansky High School No. 201). After his sister Soja was executed as a partisan by the Wehrmacht in the German-Soviet War in 1941, he wanted to go to the front , where he hoped to find his sister's torturers and executioners .

In April 1942 he was accepted into the Red Army and in 1943 he graduated from the Ulyanovsk tank school as a sub-lieutenant . His first combat mission happened in October 1943 at Orsha , which was followed by fighting in Belarus , the Baltic States and East Prussia . For his service in the capture of Königsberg on April 6, 1945, he became the Guard - Lieutenant transported and ISU-152 -Batteriekommandeur in a Guards Regiment of the 3rd Belorussian Front appointed. He was fatally wounded on April 13 at Vierbrüderkrug. A memorial was erected for him there. His grave is in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery .

As the brother of Soja Kosmodemjanskaja, he was also posthumously named Hero of the Soviet Union . The Alexander Kosmodemjansky settlement in Kaliningrad and the asteroid (1977) Shura , discovered in 1970, are named after him. In Moscow there is a stele on the street named after Soja Kosmodemjanskaja and Alexander Kosmodemjanski.
