Nadporutschik
Nadporutschik , German Oberporutschik , is the highest or first officer rank from the group of lieutenants in a number of Slavophone armed forces. According to the NATO rank code , the Oberporutschik is currently comparable to the OF-1a classification .
A possible ascending order of precedence would be:
- Podporutschik (Unterporutschik / Unterleutnant )
- Porutschik ( lieutenant )
- Nadporutschik (Oberporutschik / First Lieutenant )
- Captain / captain (OF-2)
Name origin
The name of the basic rank Porutschik comes from the Russian noun "порука / poruka" - guarantee . Initially, the Porutschik had to accompany commanded soldiers. He guaranteed in writing that the soldiers arrived in full and on time at the place ordered. The rank later developed from this task.
In the Russian army , the poruchik was introduced to regiments with a new structure in the mid-17th century . A Porutschik was usually an assistant to the company commander and later a platoon leader . Further ranks followed.
