The Army of the Republic of North Macedonia ( mk. Армија на Република Северна Македонија , APCM for short ) is the military of the Republic of North Macedonia . It is divided into an army with attached air forces ( Heeresflieger ). Due to the landlocked location of the country, there is no independent navy .

General

The North Macedonian armed forces have a workforce of 8,000 active soldiers and 5,000 reservists . In 2017 which amounted defense budget 112 million US dollars to give 1.0 percent of gross domestic product accounts. The country is a member of NATO . Foreign Minister Dimitrov and representatives of the NATO countries signed the accession agreement on February 6, 2019. After ratification, North Macedonia became the 30th NATO member on March 27, 2020. Furthermore, membership in the OSCE is given and membership in the EU is sought .

modernization

In order to improve interoperability with the other NATO members, the North Macedonian Army plans to replace most of their armored vehicles from the Soviet era. These BTR-70 , BTR-80 , BMP-2 and MT-LBs are to be replaced by 56 armored personnel carriers and 96 light armored vehicles from American production.
