Alexander Bangiev has lived in Germany since 1992. He became Lower Saxony Master for the first time in 1994 and won this title again in 1995, 1996 and 1998. In 1994 he was awarded the title of International Master .

In recent years his activity has been limited to training work (C and B training license of the DSB ) and the development of a method of thinking.

Elo development

Bangiev method

Bangiev is the developer of the so-called Bangiev method or "B-method". In his opinion, it is a theory and method of thinking for every stage of a game of chess and, if used correctly, supposedly automatically leads to known, but then understood, opening moves or settlements in the middlegame or in the endgame . It pretends to give a scientific guide to chess thinking.

It consists of three components:

  • Theory : The field strategy, a chess theory based on the primacy of fields. It is assumed that there are certain fields that keep their strategic or game-determining importance throughout the game.
  • Method : The fields-move-thinking method, a method of chess thinking based on the field strategy. Based on the important fields of certain types of positions, the traits in question are to be examined.
  • Practice : Chess training, which is based on the field strategy, consists in the application of the fields-move-thinking method and in which the own thinking technique should be systematically trained.

criticism

The Bangiev method has been widely criticized. One objection is that the method is one-dimensional and only works in specially selected games. The general benefit is doubtful.

Scottish Grand Master Jonathan Rowson describes the concept of field strategy as “confusing” and “incoherent”. He recommends staying away from it.

Some other chess trainers such as FM Uwe Kersten and FM Wilhelm Schlemermeyer († 2010) strongly advise against this method.
