Alexander Camerarius

Alexander Camerarius , also Camerer (born February 3, 1696 in Tübingen ; † November 17, 1736 in Tübingen) was a German physician, professor, rector and inspector of the Botanical Garden of the University of Tübingen.

Life

His parents were the physician and botanist Rudolf Jacob Camerarius (1665–1721) and Christina Magdalena Crafft (1670–1727).

Alexander Camerarius enrolled at the University of Tübingen in 1710 and studied medicine there from 1713-1717. In 1717 he was promoted to Dr. med. doctorate and received the title and rank of associate professor of medicine. In 1720 he was adjointed to the Professor of Anatomy and Surgery Johann Zeller with the promise of becoming his successor ( cum spe successionis ) with half salary. 1722–1736 he was a full professor of medicine (theory and practice) and also supervisor of the botanical garden. 1724/25 and 1729 he was rector of the University of Tübingen and 1731–1734 Supremus Deputatus . His portrait hangs in the professors' gallery in Tübingen . On April 17, 1719 he was elected a member (matriculation no. 336) of the Leopoldina with the nickname Hector IV .

He had been married to Clara Hedwig Zeller, the daughter of the physician Johann Gottfried Zeller , since 1720 .
