Alexander Diess (born September 8, 1971 in Aurolzmünster ) is a former Austrian ski jumper and today's ski jumping trainer.

Career

Diess made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on January 4, 1992 in Innsbruck . In the 1992/93 season he started in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup for the first time and was nominated again for World Cup jumping in January 1993 after good performance there. He was able to win his only two World Cup points in his career with 14th place in ski flying on the Kulm . With these points at the end of the 1992/93 season he finished 54th in the overall World Cup ranking and 16th in the overall ski flying World Cup ranking. After the 1993/94 season, in which he was able to win another 13 points in the Continental Cup, Diess ended his active ski jumping career.

After his active ski jumping career he studied sports science and psychology to teaching and graduated from the State coach education. From 1997 to 1998 he was assistant trainer for ski jumping in the Upper Austria regional association . From 1998 to 1999 he was the coach of the selection team in the ÖSV. Between 1999 and 2004 he was in charge of training group II in the ÖSV before taking over the post of head coach from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 he became a ski jumping trainer for the national team for Nordic combined . He is currently co-trainer of the ÖSV national team.

In 2012 he represented the head coach Alexander Pointner at the Ski Flying World Championships in Vikersund (Norway), where he had one of his greatest successes. He led the team to World Cup gold. He expressed his joy at this success by spontaneously sliding on the seat of his pants over the take-off table.

Diess lives in Hallein today, is married and has 2 daughters.
