biography

Filippou studied chemistry from 1976 to 1982 at the Technical University of Munich . He completed his studies with a diploma thesis ( summa cum laude ) on the formation of an anionic carbine complex in the group of EO Fischer. Also in this group, he developed his dissertation ( summa cum laude ) New ways through neutral, substituted carbine-carbonyl compounds to anionic ketene and carbine-complex of VI.Nebengruppe with it in 1984 at the Munich Technical University Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate . The subsequent postdoc phase led to the Facultas Docendi in Chemistry in 1992 . His habilitation took place in the group of WA Herrmann at the Technical University of Munich with the thesis Metal-Centered Coupling Reactions of C1 Ligands In the same year he was temporarily head of the research group of MLH Green at the University of Oxford , and from December 1992 a fellow at St. Matthews College in Oxford.

Filippou followed 1993 a call to the C3 Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Humboldt University of Berlin , then in 2005 to the W3 professor of inorganic chemistry at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn. He was there from 2007 to 2009 and has been Director of the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at the university since 2012. From 2009 to 2012 he was chairman of the chemistry department at the University of Bonn.

In 1994 Filippou was awarded the Lecturer's Scholarship from the German Chemical Industry Association .

Alexander Filippou made important contributions to the study of the higher homologues of carbon ( Si , Ge , Sn , Pb ), particularly in relation to the ability to form triple bonds to transition metals .
