Oswaldo Trigueiro de Albuquerque Mello (born January 2, 1905 in the Municipio Alagoa Grande, Paraíba , † July 30, 1989 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian diplomat , lawyer and politician .

Life

Oswaldo Trigueiro de Albuquerque Mello was the son of América Trigueiro de Albunquerque Milleo and Francisco Oswaldo Trigueiro de Albuquerque Mello. He obtained his Abitur at the Colégio Pio X , in João Pessoa . In November 1924 he completed a law degree at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife . From 1925 to 1929 he lived in Teófilo Ottoni, Minas Gerais State, where he served as District Attorney, Secondary School Inspector and Attorney. In 1930 he supported the election campaign of Júlio Prestes for president in Paraíba . From 1931 he was lobbying in Rio de Janeiro . In 1934 he became Secretário do Instituto dos Advogados do Rio de Janeiro (Association of Lawyers) and his clients included companies such as Souza Cruz ( tobacco industry ). From 1936 to 1937 he was mayor of João Pessoa. From 1939 to 1940 he studied at the University of Michigan and earned a Masters in Political Science .

From 1941 to 1945 he was involved in various professional associations of lawyers in Rio de Janeiro and Paraíba . In 1945 he supported the presidential candidacy of Eduardo Gomes in Paraíba. On January 19, 1947 he was elected governor of Paraíba, was sworn in on March 6, 1947 and resigned on June 30, 1950.

From 1951 to 1954 he sat for the União Democrática Nacional in the Congress of the state of Paraiba and was there a member of the committees for justice and diplomacy. From November 2, 1954 to January 31, 1958, he was Ambassador to Jakarta , Indonesia . From 1957 to 1960 he headed the Instituto Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais which published the Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional .

In 1960 he moved to Brasilia, where he was a member of the Supreme Electoral Court from 1961 to 1965. As part of the Operação Brother Sam , he was appointed Attorney General in April 1964 . By decree of November 16, 1965, Humberto Castelo Branco appointed him chairman of the Supreme Court. He was retired by a decree of January 3, 1975 .
