Alexander Gonda

Alexander Gonda (born April 5, 1905 in Timisoara , Hungary ; † February 25, 1977 in Berlin ) was a Hungarian-German sculptor , graphic artist and author .

life and work

Alexander Gonda studied from 1923 to 1930 at the Dresden Art Academy with Karl Albiker and Wilhelm Gerstel , after which he moved to Berlin. In addition to his work as an artist, he was also an author who illustrated his books himself. Gonda was appointed as a university professor at the Berlin School of Fine Arts in Charlottenburg . In 1953 he was awarded the Berlin Art Prize. From 1968 to 1970 Alexander Gonda was a member of the executive board of the Deutscher Künstlerbund , at the DKB annual exhibitions between 1951 (with the marble sculpture Fisch and the terracotta sculptures Vogel and Badende , all 1951) and 1971 (with two constructivist works in ink on paper) attended a total of seventeen times. Gonda belonged to Karl Hofer's close circle of friends .

Alexander Gonda died in Berlin in February 1977 at the age of 71. He was buried in the state-owned cemetery in Heerstraße in today's Berlin-Westend district (grave location: I-Ur-53). The tomb has not been preserved.
