Alexander Grebel

Alexander Grebel (born July 3, 1806 in Koblenz , † February 2, 1870 in St. Goar ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life

Born as the son of a lawyer and notary, Alexander Grebel attended grammar school in Koblenz. After high school he studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg Law . In 1829 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn . In 1832 he joined the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg . After his legal clerkship he became a justice of the peace in Karden in 1834 . Around 1840 he came to St. Goar as a justice of the peace. Grebel was a member of the preliminary parliament of the Frankfurt National Assembly and the Prussian National Assembly from 1848. In 1849 he sat for the Düsseldorf constituency in the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the far left . He wrote some local history writings about the St. Goar region. Grebel was married to Margarte von Metzen from Ehrenbreitstein, with whom he had four sons and a daughter. The Reich judge Johann Jakob von Metzen was his nephew.
