Alexander Kirchner (trade unionist)

Alexander Kirchner (born August 21, 1956 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German railway unionist. He is deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn .

From 1973 onwards, Kirchner completed an apprenticeship as an energy system electronics technician at the Limburg railway repair shop at the Deutsche Bundesbahn. He has been active in the union since 1974, and has been full-time since 1991. From 2010 to 2019 he was chairman of the Railway and Transport Union (EVG).

In 1974 Kirchner became the youth representative of the German Railway Workers' Union ( GdED , later Transnet ) and from 1983 to 1990 he was an exempt staff council in Frankfurt am Main. In 1991 he became trade union secretary at GdED, where he was elected to the extended executive committee in 2000; in May 2008 he was first deputy chairman and in November 2008 chairman. After the merger of Transnet and the transport union GDBA on November 30, 2010, he became chairman of the newly created rail and transport union EVG.

Kirchner was a tariff expert in the rail tariff dispute of 2007 and 2008.

Kirchner is married and has one daughter. Motorcycling is one of his hobbies.
