Alexander Koller (born December 12, 1960 in Regensburg ) is a German historian .

biography

After attending the humanistic grammar school of the Regensburger Domspatzen , Alexander Koller studied classical and Romance philology as well as history at the University of Munich . After a stay in Dijon , he obtained the title of Magister Artium (MA) in Latin in 1989. Philology. After the state examinations in French, Latin and history, he was awarded a doctorate in Modern History in 1993 with an investigation into early modern peace mediation using the example of the Peace of Vossem (1673). phil. PhD. Since 1993 he has worked at the German Historical Institute in Rome as a consultant for the history of the early modern period. In 1999 the Federal Ministry of Education and Research appointed him as Deputy Director of the DHI Rome . From May 2001 to September 2002 he was acting director of the institute. Between 1993 and 2018 he was responsible for editing the journal Sources and Research from Italian Archives and Libraries . In 2010 he completed his habilitation in modern history at the University of Vienna with a thesis on the relationship between the imperial court and the Roman curia in the epoch of confessionalization (1555–1648). In the summer semester of 2012 he was a visiting professor at the University of Vienna.
