Alexander Meyer von Bremen (born December 5, 1930 in Leipzig ; † February 7, 2002 in Duisburg ) was a German composer and pianist .

Life

Alexander Meyer von Bremen received organ and harpsichord lessons from Günther Ramin while he was still in school at the humanistic grammar school of the Thomaskirche . Between 1946 and 1949 he studied at the Leipzig University of Music (piano and composition) and moved to the Federal Republic in 1951 with the help of a scholarship from the city of Recklinghausen and the German Study Foundation. Between 1951 and 1954 he studied at the Cologne University of Music (composition with Frank Martin , piano and harpsichord with Adolf Hoffmann ). After passing his state examination in the late 1950s, he attended composition courses with Wolfgang Fortner , Ernst Krenek and Hans Werner Henze .

Meyer von Bremen had worked as a pianist and concert accompanist since 1949 and from 1957 to 1987 a member of the "West German Trio".

From 1959 to 1995 he worked at the Niederrheinische Musikschule Duisburg and received teaching assignments for keyboard instruments, musical composition, chamber music and accompaniment at the Folkwang University of the Arts (Dept. Duisburg) until 1997 . He also worked as a pianist and arranger for the Tea Time Ensemble in Düsseldorf.
