Alexander Mikhailovich Semyonov
Alexander Semionov ( Russian Александр Михайлович Семёнов , scientific. Transliteration Aleksandr Michajlovič Semenov * 18th February 1922 in Torzhok , Tver province ; † 23. June 1984 in Leningrad , USSR ) was a Soviet- Russian painter and member of the Leningrad Union of Artists , a the main representative of the Leningrad School of Painting.
Career
In the mid-1930s, Semyonov's family moved to Leningrad. In 1940 Semyonov graduated from the Leningrad Art School, he studied with Alexander Gromov, Semion Bootler, Viktor Oreschnikow, Vladimir Levitsky and Mariam Aslamazian.
In 1941 Semyonov volunteered for the Red Army and took part in the defense of Leningrad in the course of the German-Soviet War . After the war he was able to develop his professional and artistic skills as a painter. Since 1954 he took part in the exhibition of Leningrad artists. In 1957 Alexander Semjonow was accepted as a member of the Leningrad Artists' Union. In the same year he participated as one of the leading Leningrad painters in the All-Union Art Exhibition in Moscow , which was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution .
Semyonov painted landscapes of Leningrad and its districts, the old Russian cities of Torzhok, Staraya Ladoga , Pskov , Yaroslavl and Rostov . Semyonov's Landscapes of Leningrad, which was the main theme of his work, found fame and recognition. The individual style of the artist in his open-air views includes the use of bright, saturated colors and the accuracy of color observation and transfer. Semyonov drew a poetic and lifelike picture of Leningrad between 1960 and 1980 in his works. Many of his paintings can be regarded as artistic monuments of a bygone era.
Alexander Semyonov died on June 23, 1984 at the age of sixty-third in the village of Daymische near Leningrad, where he had worked a lot in the last years of his life. Semyonov's paintings hang in art museums in Russia, in numerous private collections in Russia, the USA, Finland, France, Japan and other countries.
