Nadežda Peedi-Hoffmann , also Nadezhda Peedi-Hoffman (born May 6 . Jul / 19th May  1911 greg. In Tomsk , Russian Empire ; †  21st May 1938 ), was an Estonian beauty queen and actress .

life and work

Nadežda (also Nadja) Peedi-Hoffmann was born in Tomsk, Siberia , and grew up there. Her Estonian parents, who worked in Tomsk, separated after the October Revolution in Russia . The mother moved to Estonia with the daughter. She was the sister of the wife of the later Estonian President Konstantin Päts .

Nadežda Peedi-Hoffmann, who was interested in music and singing, graduated from secondary school in Tallinn and studied in 1932 in the famous studio of the Estonian dancer Gerd Neggo (1891–1974).

On June 19, 1932, the 21-year-old brunette beauty won the national beauty pageant Miss Eesti / Estonia against 32 competitors . The competition was hosted by the Estonian newspaper Päevaleht with great hype.

The winner was crowned on June 21, 1932 in the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn during a grand ball . Since the competition in Estonia was not held again until 1988, Peedi-Hoffmann was the longest reigning beauty queen in Estonia for a period of 56 years. On July 31, 1932, Peedi-Hoffmann took part in the International Pageant of Pulchritude beauty contest in Spa , Belgium, as a representative of Estonia .

With the victory in the beauty contest of the newspaper Päevaleht was connected to the main role in an Estonian feature film project. In 1932, Nadežda Peedi-Hoffmann played one of the leading roles in the Finnish-Estonian love flick Päikese lapsed (in German "Sonnenkinder"), the first real Estonian sound film. Directed by Theodor Luts , who worked closely with Päevaleht. Filming began in August 1932. The film premiered on November 3, 1932.

Nadežda Peedi-Hoffmann was the muse of the Estonian writer August Alle (1890–1952).

Peedi-Hoffmann died in May 1938. She is buried next to her mother Adele Peedi (1876–1951) in the Liiva cemetery in Tallinn.
