Alexander Miesen (born March 16, 1983 in Prüm ) is a Belgian politician of the Party for Freedom and Progress (PFF). He was President of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community from 2013 to 2014 and has been President of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community again since September 2016 and was elected Community Senator of the DG in 2014, but as a result of the 2014 coalition agreement between the ProDG and the SP, he will take the office of Parliament President of the DG in September 2016 again. At the local level, he has been a member of the Büllingen municipal council since 2006 .

Life

Miesen holds a bachelor's degree in law. From 2006 to 2010 he was political advisor to Senator Berni Collas (PFF) and Minister Bernd Gentges (PFF). After that, the PFF was employed as a group employee in the DG Parliament. He also chaired the JFF, the youth branch of the PFF, from 2009 to 2013.

Although he only moved into the DG parliament in 2012, he took over the chairmanship of the parliament of the German-speaking community on January 21, 2013 after the former president, Ferdel Schröder (PFF), passed away. Miesen was thus the youngest parliamentary president in the history of the German-speaking community .

After the community elections on May 25, 2014 , the coalition agreement between the regional movement ProDG , the Socialists ( SP ) and the Liberals stipulated that Miesen would in the meantime hand over the office of President of Parliament to Karl-Heinz Lambertz (SP) for two years before taking it for the 2016–2017 session should be returned. By then, Miesen was elected joint senator for the DG, replacing Louis Siquet (SP). Miesen has been President of Parliament again since September 19, 2016.
