First he entered the Junior World Championships in Kościelisko . In Poland, a 24th place in the pursuit was the best result for the Austrian. Nuss has been competing in the European Biathlon Cup since the 2003/2004 season . He contested his first race in Ridnaun , where he was 81st in the sprint. He won his first points in 2004 as 26th in the Langdorf sprint . Nuss achieved a first podium placement in 2005 at a super sprint final in Gurnigel , a competition which, however, could not prevail. Despite repeated good results, the Austrian did not make his breakthrough for a long time. It was not until the 2008/09 season that he was able to advance to the top of the IBU Cup. At the final of the racing series in Ridnaun, Nuss was able to achieve his best position in the pursuit race behind Erik Lesser . He finished sixth overall and won the IBU Pursuit Cup. With sixth place, Nuss acquired the right to start the World Cup finals of the 2008/09 season . In Khanty-Mansiysk he ran his first World Cup race and reached 71st place in the sprint. With that he missed the chase.
