Alexander Otto (born July 7, 1967 in Hamburg ) is a German business manager and founder .

Life

Alexander Otto is the youngest son of the Hamburg mail order company founder Werner Otto and his third wife Maren.

After high school and studies at Oxford and Harvard as well as professional positions in the USA, he joined the family business in 1994. Since 2000 he has been the CEO of ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Hamburg, which develops, realizes, leases and operates large commercial real estate. The company is owned by CURA Vermögensverwaltung , a holding company of the Otto family .

Alexander Otto is also a member of the Otto Group's Supervisory Board , the chairman of which is his half-brother Michael Otto . He is also on the supervisory boards of Deutsche EuroShop AG , Sonae Sierra Brasil SA in São Paulo / Brazil and DDR Corp. in Cleveland / USA as well as on the advisory board of Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf .

Otto acted as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Europe and chaired the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Europe until October 2015 . He is chairman of the board of trustees of the Lebendige Stadt Foundation , which is largely supported by the ECE. In 2006 he set up the Alexander Otto Sports Foundation, named after himself , whose goal is the sustainable promotion of popular sport, but also competitive sports in his hometown of Hamburg, and which was responsible for the construction and operation of the Volksbank Arena , which opened at the end of 2008 . In 2011 he founded the Dorit & Alexander Otto Foundation with his wife Dorit. In particular, the foundation supports medical and cultural projects, including the extensive modernization of the Hamburger Kunsthalle .

From January 2009 he was deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the Bundesliga club Hamburger SV , and in June 2012 he took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board. He did not run again for the January 2013 election. At the general meeting of the HSV on January 25, 2015 Otto announced that he would donate 10 million euros to the HSV for the construction of the HSV campus , the general planning and construction of which will be carried out by ECE. The Alexander Otto Sportstiftung has a 25 percent stake in HSV-Campus gGmbH , which owns the HSV-Campus, and rents it to HSV Fußball AG, which holds the remaining 75 percent. All surpluses go to charitable sports projects of HSV e. V. benefit.
