Alexander Otto Benz also in the name variants Alexander O. Benz , Alex Otto Benz , Alex O. Benz (born July 17, 1880 in Mayville , Dodge County , Wisconsin , † August 10, 1980 in Appleton , Outagamie County , Wisconsin) was a US -American insurance manager and politician with the Wisconsin Progressive Party .

Life

Family and education

Alexander Otto Benz, son of Otto W. Benz (1856–1942) and Elisa Schoen Benz (1858–1947), graduated after attending North Western College in Watertown , Wisconsin in 1902 at the Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm , Minnesota . Alexander Otto Benz married Lina M. Glasgow on August 19, 1902. From this marriage came the children Leona, wife of Douglas Berkelow, Alex W, Walter H, Herbert G. and Bernice, wife of Louis Getschow. Alexander Otto Benz died in August 1980 a few weeks after turning 100 in a nursing home in Appleton, Wisconsin. He found his final resting place in the local Highland Memorial Park.

Professional background

Alexander Otto Benz taught at the Dr. Martin Luther College at several schools in the US state of Wisconsin, including in the fall of 1902 at St. Peter Lutheran Church School in Root Creek. In 1918 he switched to the position of treasurer for the Glasow-Tubbs Company, wholesale grocers to Fond du Lac . Alexander Otto Benz, who was subsequently promoted to Credit and Sales Manager and later General Manager , went in 1926 as Vice President of the insurance company Aid Association for Lutherans in Appleton, Wisconsin. He then served as Chairman , and since 1963 as a member of the Advisory Council. Alexander Otto Benz also served as President of the National Flag Day Foundation, the Appleton Chamber of Commerce, the National Fraternal Congress of America and the Kiwanis Club.

Alexander Otto Benz, who initially joined the Republican Party and later joined the Wisconsin Progressive Party, ran as one of the party's last leading politicians in the gubernatorial elections in Wisconsin in 1944 . He finished third in this election behind Republican Walter Samuel Goodland and Democrat Daniel Hoan . Benz then withdrew from politics.
