Alexander Pöschl

Alexander Pöschl (born March 13, 1865 in Verona , Venetia , Austrian Empire , † April 22, 1942 in Vienna , Austria ) was an Austrian folk song collector .

Life

Alexander Pöschl was born on March 13, 1865 in the city of Verona in what is now northern Italy , which at that time belonged to the Austrian Empire . Around five years later, his brother Felix Pöschl (1870–1948) was born. In addition to his work as authorized signatory of the piano company Nemetschke in Vienna , he was primarily a collector of folk songs . Among other things, he was a member of the German Volksgesang-Verein founded by Josef Pommer in 1890 and a long-time employee of the magazine Das deutsche Volkslied, published from 1899 . In cooperation with his brother Felix and Karl Kronfuß , he brought out the work Niederösterreichische Volkslieder und Jodler from the Schneeberg region in 1930, which was considered exemplary for the Austrian folk music collection and groundbreaking for the maintenance of folk songs in Austria and Bavaria . On April 22, 1942, Pöschl died at the age of 77 in the Austrian capital Vienna.
