Alexander Sergejewitsch Sokolov ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Соколов , English transcription: Alexander Sergeevich Sokolov ; born March 1, 1982 in Kolomna ) is a Russian volleyball player .
Career
Sokolov began his career in 1998 at Spartak Moscow . In the following year he became Junior World Champion with the Russian youngsters. In 2000 the title at the European Championship followed. Then the Libero moved to Neftjanik Yaroslavl . In 2001 the Russian juniors reached the final of the world championship. On July 27, 2002, Sokolow made his debut in the senior national team at the world league game against Germany in Düsseldorf . In 2009 he went to Fakel Novy Urengoy . In 2011 the Libero returned to the national team after an eight-year break, with which he won both the World League and the World Cup . In 2012 he became Olympic champion in London .
