Alexander Sostmann

Alexander Sostmann (born December 24, 1833 in Elze , † February 15, 1908 in Hanover ) was a German administrative lawyer in the Kingdom of Hanover and in the Province of Hanover . For almost two decades he was at the head of the district and district administration in Otterndorf - five and a half years as district and district chief, 13 years as district administrator.

Life

Sostmann studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1854 he was one of the founders of the Corps Teutonia Göttingen. After he had been a government assessor for a while, he was mayor of Otterndorf from 1865 . Bad roads and inadequate drinking water supplies were old problems; but he felt very comfortable in Otterndorf. Shortly before the start of the German War , on June 16, 1866, he married Maria Wiebalck, 12 years his junior, daughter of the Otterndorfer Landphysicus Dr. Albrecht Wiebalck. Two older brothers moved to Otterndorf to get married or remarried. Sostmann's four children were born in Otterndorf in 1867–1872. In 1873 he went for 12 years as Amtshauptmann for office Dorum . In 1879 he was District Chief in the control circuit Otterndorf. After the Hadeln district was established, Sostmann was appointed as the district administrator on April 1, 1885 . In 1898 he resigned from office. When he left, the district had 8,006 male and 8,233 female residents. 16,119 Protestants were compared to 95 Catholics, 4 Jews and 21 dissidents. Sostmann's successor in office was Friedrich Bayer. In 1902 Sostmann moved to Hanover.
