Alexander Steinitz

Alexander Steinitz (born January 17, 1967 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian conductor and since 2018 the first Kapellmeister of the Theater Vorpommern.

Life

Steinitz received his first music lessons at the Carl Orff Institute of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. After completing high school in Vienna, he studied conducting with Karl Österreicher and Leopold Hager , as well as music theory with Diether de la Motte and composition with Kurt Schwertsik at the music academy there . After graduating, he completed a year abroad at Yale University in the USA , based on a sponsorship award from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts, where he completed his studies in conducting with Günther Herbig, Eleazar de Carvalho and Lawrence Leighton Smith.

Before his position as first conductor and deputy general music director of the Theater Vorpommern, Alexander Steinitz worked as first conductor and deputy general music director in Krefeld-Mönchengladbach and before that in Meiningen (2009-2011), before that he was first conductor in Magdeburg (2003-2009), deputy general music director at the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück (2001–2003), and between 1995 and 2001 Kapellmeister with the director Brigitte Fassbaender at the Tyrolean State Theater in Innsbruck.

Alexander Steinitz worked with the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Philharmonic State Orchestra Halle, the Magdeburg Philharmonic, the State Orchestra Braunschweig , the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, New Haven Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Soloists, which he accompanied on their Japan tour, together.

Steinitz was a prizewinner at the " Forum for Young Artists " in Vienna , received an award at the International Conductors ' Forum in Hamm , the Magdeburg Theater Prize for the musical theater section and made several radio recordings. From the 2003/2004 season he worked as the first conductor at the theater of the state capital Magdeburg, where he oversaw opera productions such as Mozart's " Figaros Hochzeit ", " Così fan tutte ", Rossini's " Barber of Seville " or Gluck's " Orpheus and Euridike ". He also conducted concerts with the Magdeburg Philharmonic, the West Saxon Symphony Orchestra, the Prussian Chamber Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the G. Ph. Telemann Conservatory. Highlights of the past seasons included a new production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera “ La forza del destino ” at the Braunschweig State Theater , an open-air production of Carl Orff'sCarmina Burana ” in Magdeburg and a collaboration with the choreographer Youri Vámos on the new production from his ballet “The Fall of Otello” in Gera . In 2006 Steinitz worked with the director Andreas Kriegenburg on his first opera production in Magdeburg.

Alexander Steinitz has been married to the violinist Sonja Matakas since 2005 .
