Life

Wendt worked from 1989 to 1991 initially as an editor at the Sächsisches Tageblatt in Leipzig and after its hiring then until 1995 as an editor and freelance journalist for Wirtschaftswoche , Stern , Tagesspiegel and other media. From 1995 to 2019 he was editor for political, economic and scientific topics at Focus . His topics there included the energy industry and the electricity market. In 2012 he wrote the cover story “The Great Illusion” about mistakes and paradoxes of the energy transition from his point of view. He has been an editor at Tichy's Insight since June 2020 . There he is responsible for the title and political series of the print edition.

Wendt is a regular author on the Axis of the Good . In 2013, together with Gideon Böss and Silvia Meixner, he wrote the parodistic book Auf ein Gläschen with Helmut Schmidt with the aim of illuminating the "dark sides" of the former German chancellor .

In his book Du Bitstück - Meine Depression und I he described his experiences with a depressive disorder , from which he has suffered since 1999, and his stay in the clinic in 2014. He also wrote about the causes of the disease, its history and therapeutic approaches. Alexander Grau reviewed in the FAZ :

“In doing so, he maintains a tone that is sometimes laconic, sometimes ironic, sometimes funny, beyond confusion. This makes access to the topic much easier. Because nothing is more depressing than depressing books about depression [...] Wendt's book encourages those affected and their families. And not just because it tells the story of recovery. Wendt also gives practical tips and tricks. The most important: honesty, the understanding that you need professional psychiatric help and the admission that you suffer from an illness that will last a lifetime. "

Wendt founded the online magazine Publico in November 2017 , which he has been running since then. He is a signatory of the 2017 Charter and the 2018 Declaration .

Alexander Wendt lives and works in Munich .
