Alexander Wessel

Alexander Wessel (born November 9, 1880 in Frankenberg / Sa. , † 1954 in Gadderbaum - Bethel , today Bielefeld ) was a German Protestant pastor , former prisoner in the Buchenwald concentration camp . After the end of the Second World War , he founded the people's solidarity in the village and helped to prepare meetings for former Buchenwald prisoners.

Life dates

After receiving his university entrance qualification, Wessel studied Protestant theology and was ordained a pastor on September 15, 1907 . From August 10, 1919, he was in charge of the Luther Sprengel of the Evangelical Church Community in Weimar . He was socially committed and organized for Weimar a. a. the Christmas tree for everyone , which was put up every year during Advent on the steps of the arts and crafts museum. During the Nazi regime he belonged to the Confessing Church and was watched by the Gestapo . In August 1941 he was interned in Buchenwald concentration camp with prisoner number 4,502 and was only released on September 13, subject to conditions.

After liberation from Nazi rule , he and other like-minded people founded the social aid organization Volkssolidarität . In later years Wessel took part in the preparation of meetings of former Buchenwald prisoners.

At the end of 1949, Wessel moved to the Federal Republic of Germany with his wife and children .
