Alexander von Engelberg

Alexander Hermann August von Engelberg (born June 20, 1894 in Mannheim ; † January 7, 1960 ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Alexander von Engelberg came from the marriage of Friedrich von Engelberg (1859-1933), descended from a noble Baden family, and the entrepreneur's daughter Karoline Dyckerhoff . He passed the Abitur in 1909 at the Humanist Gymnasium in Karlsruhe. During the First World War he served as an officer in the Imperial Air Force and was seriously wounded. He found a job in the civil administration in Romania and with the military attaché in Bern.

After the end of the war he gained professional experience as a businessman at banks and industrial companies. In 1922 he joined the family business of the Portland cement factory Dyckerhoff & Söhne GmbH in Mainz-Amöneburg. In 1923 he received power of attorney, became deputy managing director in 1927 and full managing director in 1929. After the company merged to form Dyckerhoff-Wicking AG, he became a member of the board. He was a member of the supervisory board of Kalle & Co. AG , among others .

From 1932 to 1945 he was Royal Swedish Vice Consul in Wiesbaden. From 1948 to 1959 he was President of the Federal Association of Building Materials - Stones and Earth , member of the Presidium of the Federal Association of German Industry and the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce. From 1953 to 1959 he was a member of the advisory committee of the European Coal and Steel Community.

In 1954 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested in the Freiburg Minster on May 9, 1954 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .
