Alexander von Kienlin

Alexander von Kienlin (* 1967 ) is a German architect and building researcher .

Alexander von Kienlin studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich from 1989 to 1995 . In the following years he ran a building planning office in Berlin and was accepted into the Berlin Chamber of Architects in 1997 . From 1997 to 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the chair for building history at the Technical University of Munich with Wolf Koenigs , interrupted in 1999/2000 by the one-year travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . In 2004 he received his doctorate from the Technical University of Munich with a thesis on the Agora of Priene . From 2007 to 2013 he worked as a senior scientist andAdjunct professor at the Institute for Monument Preservation and Building Research at ETH Zurich . In 2013 he became a full professor for architectural history at the TU Braunschweig , where he also took over the management of the BetTfila research center for Jewish architecture in Europe . Since the 2019/2020 winter semester, he has been a full professor at the Technical University of Munich, where he heads the Chair for Building History, Historical Building Research and Monument Preservation.

Alexander von Kienlin is a member and, since 2018, first chairman of the Koldewey Society . He is also a member of the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft , a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and was the founding president of the Israel Jacobson network. His work focuses on the areas of ancient building history and the modern reception of antiquity, the history of structural engineering and the history of Jewish architecture and culture. In 2010 he was co-organizer of an internationally acclaimed exhibition on the Tatarli Tumulus in Istanbul.
